A SIGNIFICANT REVELATION ABOUT THE LORD JESUS CHRIST
1 Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus,
2 who was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was faithful in all His house.
3 For this One has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as He who built the house has more honor than the house.
4 For every house is built by someone, but He who built all things is God.
5 And Moses indeed was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which would be spoken afterward,
6 but Christ as a Son over His own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end. Hebrews 3:1-6
THE LORD JESUS AS THE APOSTLE SENT BY GOD
1. The word “Apostle”
a) It simply means “One who is sent”
b) The Apostle is:
i) Given special authority and power
ii) His deeds authenticate his standing as an apostle
2. The Lord Jesus was conscious of being Sent by God
(A short list of texts that highlighted the word “Sent”)
a) The Father who sent Him
21 For as the Father raises the dead and gives life to them, even so the Son gives life to whom He will.
22 For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son,
23 that all should honor the Son just as they honour the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him. John 5:21-23
b) The Father has sent Me
36 But I have a greater witness than John’s; for the works which the Father has given Me to finish—
the very works that I do—bear witness of Me, that the Father has sent Me.
37 And the Father Himself, who sent Me, has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His form.
38 But you do not have His word abiding in you, because whom He sent, Him you do not believe. John 5:36-38
c) The will of Him who sent Me
For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. John 6:38
d) The Father who sent Me
“I am One who bears witness of Myself, and the Father who sent Me bears witness of Me.” John 8:18
e) The Father’s who sent Me
23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word;
and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.
24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me. John 14:23-24
THE LORD JESUS AS THE FAITHFUL HIGH PRIEST
1For every high priest taken from among men is appointed for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins.
2 He can have compassion on those who are ignorant and going astray, since he himself is also subject to weakness.
3 Because of this he is required as for the people, so also for himself, to offer sacrifices for sins.
4 And no man takes this honour to himself, but he who is called by God, just as Aaron was.
5 So also Christ did not glorify Himself to become High Priest, but it was He who said to Him: “You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.”
6 As He also says in another place: “You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek”;
7 who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death,
and was heard because of His godly fear, 8 though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered. 9 And having been perfected,
He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him, 10 called by God as High Priest “according to the order of Melchizedek,” Hebrews 5:1-10
